Albury High School is conducting an Outdoor Education course for Year 8 students in conjunction with Outward Bound Australia. This course has been conducted for the last two years at AHS and is open to all students, both male and female, in Year 8.

Outward Bound Australia is an independent, not for profit organisation engaged in personal development and experiential education in the outdoors. Outward Bound has been established in Australia since 1954. It was established with the aim of helping adolescents and young adults learn more about themselves, their strengths, their weaknesses and their potential. The experiences have a strong, meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of participants.

The Albury High School program will run from the 6th November to the 12th November, 2008, 7 days, and will be based at Tharwa in the ACT. Through such activities as hiking, climbing, abseiling, decision making, caving and rafting, students discover things about themselves that are not possible in a normal school setting.

This is an exciting opportunity for your child to participate in a program that has been shown to positively impact on the following variables:

The cost of this course, including transport to and from Tharwa, is approximately $660 per student without fundraising. The organising committee intends to run some student-based and possibly some parent-based fundraising activities in an effort to reduce the student contribution.

Confirmation of Year 8 participants: Names and $100 deposit by April 7.
Distribution of AHS information booklet to participants: Week 5 - Term 2.
Course payments in instalments throughout Term 2&3: Details in info booklet.

Family Portraits “ Portrait Place” (Fundraising activity: parent committee) June.
Applause Festival BBQ (Fundraising activity: parent committee) October.
Physical Preparation for students – during school sport in Term 4.
Submission of medical forms: Late Term 3.
